At Sustainable Bebe we seek to answer the question:
What if a purchase could empower instead of exploit?
Quite often we hear of horror stories about exploited factory workers kept in virtual slavery. In addition, recent news stories about lead contamination and other issues of the quality and/or safety of imported products leave many of us feeling that there has to be a better, more sustainable, and truly ethical way to buy the things we need. Sustainable Bebe is committed to this mission and we abide by this rule: if it has a Sustainable Bebe label then it must be ethical, affordable, and beautiful.
Ethical:
Each time you purchase one of our beautiful handmade clothing items it means that one of our partners was paid a fair wage for her craftsmanship. This money goes towards food, medical care, housing, education, and other necessities. Our partners in Ghana are valued participants at Sustainable Bebe. We recognize that it is through their skills and knowledge that we can bring you the high quality and beauty that comes with the Sustainable Bebe label.
In addition, the women of the Dzidefo Coop set their own prices and working hours. Their purchase of the beautiful batik fabrics in our clothing is from local artisans, which in turn stimulates the local economy, and preserves indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage.
Affordable:
By providing beautiful, classic and high-quality pieces purchased directly from our partners in Ghana we are able to deliver competitive prices to our customers. As a single mom I often wanted to buy "fair trade" or "organic" but found I was often priced out of the market. At Sustainable Bebe we keep our prices reasonable so we can be accessible to many budgets.
Beautiful:
Sustainable Bebe is the missing link in the world of fair-trade fashion as their are so few fair trade options for children's clothing. We value classic lines and many of our pieces are reminiscent of vintage styles. Our committment to quality and beauty is reflected in each handmade piece that cannot be found anywhere else.
